Matthias Petri is one of the founders and CEO of 4eck Media. In addition to the traditional agency business, 4eck Media also runs the e-learning platform Tutkit.com.
We spoke to Matthias about the challenges of multilingual projects.
Martin, thank you very much, my name is Matthias Petri. I am the founder and Managing Director here at 4eck Media. We are a classic agency in the customer project business. We specialize in technical SEO, page speed and multilingual projects. We build online stores and larger platforms.
What makes us unique is that we also have our own e-learning project, TutKit.com. This means that we publish online courses on all aspects of digital skills. At the same time, we also have suitable creative assets and design templates that we offer our customers.
Hetzner became an issue for us in 2015 when we launched TutKit. We currently have three cloud servers.
We use one for our email distribution list. We have over 100,000 newsletter subscribers and we process everything via this. We use a second cloud server for our PSD Tutorials forum and for our agency website and then a third for TutKit.com. We also have two storage boxes that we use for our backup needs. And another dev server for our test environment.
It starts with the login. I need two-factor authentication. It's annoying, but it's fundamental. As an agency owner, I don't send any of our customers to web hosts that don't offer two-factor authentication. And that's good proof of Hetzner's security.
Furthermore, your user interface is very good. It makes it very easy for me to get an overview of a site. Which functions are there, what do I use, how is the utilization? You offer various graphs, e.g. for CPU utilization and network traffic. I can always see straight away whether I'm already at the limit somewhere or whether I still have a bit of leeway. That's very good.
You also have some functions that I personally really like. One is the rebuild function. You make nightly backups and I can restore them the next day with one click, which makes it very convenient for me. On the other hand, you also have the rescale function. This allows me to give my cloud server more power with just one click. This is essential for us because we are currently in the process of internationalizing TutKit. This means that we are currently rolling out different language versions of a website. As a result, traffic is increasing every week. If I therefore need more power and want to switch on the next level, I can do this with you with just one click - without having to make any further configurations.
I need two-factor authentication. [...] I don't send any of our customers to web hosts that don't offer two-factor authentication. And that's good proof of Hetzner's security.
When I look back over the almost ten years that we have been a customer of yours: There have been no failures on your part that I have noticed in any way. If there were any failures, it was more due to us. And we like your price-performance ratio. You have a very good price for a great service. The third point is that if I ever need help, I can find a contact person in your support team. That's an important point for us: it's not so anonymous. You're not just a number, you can reach someone who can actually help us. Those are the three most important points. They are decisive for me. As a German company, having a German contact person. We have always had a good feeling with Hetzner.
Yes, as I said, we are currently rolling out different languages. For the last six months or so, we have been bringing a new language version of TutKit online every week. As a result, traffic is growing significantly. Every week we have a new record number of visitors and that's why monitoring is so interesting for us. How is the CPU utilization? Do we now have to scale up on the server side with one click so that we can handle all of this? Do we have these peaks or is everything still going great? The servers are working great and with Hetzner we have the right partner for our further scaling steps. By the end of the year, we expect our platform to reach the first six-figure clicks per day. So we need a reliable server partner at our side. With Hetzner, we have had this partner for nine years.
