Vertreter der Stadt Gunzenhausen freuen sich gemeinsam mit Hetzner Online und den weiteren Unterstützern über das neue kostenlose WLAN in Gunzenhausen.

    Gunzenhausen – 1. November 2014

The Gunzenhausen based web hosting provider and data center operator Hetzner Online, in cooperation with the City of Gunzenhausen and the support of Elektro Braun and PC-SPEZIALIST Gunzenhausen, has made a “free WLAN“ project a reality, enabling residents to surf online free of charge at various locations throughout Gunzenhausen without the usual registration of personal details.

Since it came into being 15 years ago, WLAN has been one of technology's success stories. Yet, by international standards, the free and open provision of WLAN access points, or 'hotspots', is not that widespread in Germany.

Hetzner Online was approached by the City of Gunzenhausen with a request for financial and technical support for the initiative. The specialist know-how and selection of appropriate hardware by Hetzner Online made it possible for first tests to be performed successfully. With the support of Berlin based Internet access specialists 'Hotsplots GmbH' and Elektro Braun of Gunzenhausen, hotspots have been successfully installed at the marketplace (Town Hall), city museum, Wald Sea Center (kiosk) and Schlungenhof (mariners's clubhouse). Further development of infrastructure for more interesting locations is already being planned. Gunzenhausen's 'PC-SPEZIALISTEN' will be maintaining the systems.
